Enemy Action: Ardennes (Compass Games)

Post autor: ChevalierVernix »

http://compassgames.com/show/product/en ... :_ardennes

Ci, co znają poprzednie gry Johna Butterfielda (D-day at Omaha Beach, RAF), mniej więcej wiedzą, czego mogą się spodziewać. To właściwie trzy gry w jednej: dwa warianty jednoosobowe każdą ze stron plus rozgrywka dwuosobowa. Do każdej wersji oddzielna mapa.

https://boardgamegeek.com/video/71727/e ... d-unboxing
i
https://boardgamegeek.com/video/71845/e ... supplement

- The 2P rules clock in at 52 pages.
- The GS rules clock in at 68 pages.
- The AS rules clock in at 72 pages.
Ah - I'll try to address this as well. Out of respect for you, I will say that I do not think I will persuade you to change your position as you have expressed. Rather, I will try to describe as fairly as I can.

First - please do look at the image I posted a day or two ago - this is a photo that John Butterfield took in his gaming space in his home just a few days ago. What he has are production counters, production cards and a pre-press version of the map. He laser printed the player aids that you see.

Second - all materials are done with a full-color process (not half-tone or two-color). This includes the rules, which have color illustrations on every page. It will be easier to match the system intelligence map markings if everything is done in color.

Third - the counters are die-cut on card stock - not euro-weight - but on the solid side of standard war game stock - for example - no wargamer should say these are thin or flimsy (well - except for one or two double-thickness addicts). The colors are rich but the information is clear and clean. It does not help much without a video - but I will say I was more pleased than I expected at the final production version.

Fourth - the cards are like playing card stock. I do not have the specs, but they are crisp, easy to read, handle well in the hand, are not either thin and flimsy or thick and meaty. They will have the right flexibility to hold and shuffle. Again - without putting your hands on them yourself, you would not be able to know whether you agree or not.

Fifth - the maps are paper - and richly saturated (see the photo). But I did not hold production final. So - I cannot say what the paper weight will be. I expect the maps to be of solid not thin stock (again - no spec on what that means of course).

Sixth - the players aids are in color - there are many of them to support the game. The paper should be a card stock, but I do not know the weight. Regarding aids - setting aside that the Daily Sequence of Play and a full Calendar are now the inside and outside back cover for each of the three rule sets - the following is implemented:

2P Aids (outside of rulebook and map)
- Allied Command Card Display
- German Command Card Display
- Bi-fold aid with Allied Events, German Events, Key Rules Summary and Combat Procedure

GS Aids (outside of the rulebook and map)
- German Command Card Display (the Allied display is on the map)
- Bi-Fold aid #1 - Allied Events, German Events, Combat Procedures (1&2)
- Bi-Fold aid #2 - Key Rules Summary, Allied AI (1&2&3)
- Single aid - universal aid - Terrain Effects and Card/Unit Reference

AS Aids (outside of the rulebook and map)
- Allied Command Card Display (the German display is on the map)
- Bi-Fold aid #1 - Allied Events, German Events, Combat Procedures (1&2)
- Bi-Fold aid #2 - Key Rules Summary, German AI (1&2&3)
- German Setup Organizer
- German Unit Adjustment Display
- Single aid - universal aid - Terrain Effects and Card/Unit Reference

Seventh - the rules as stated are full color - do not know the weight or finish on these but the detail in the illustrations is extensive, so a "muddy process" will do no one any favors.
- The 2P rules clock in at 52 pages.
- The GS rules clock in at 68 pages.
- The AS rules clock in at 72 pages.

With respect to the rules, about 50% is rules text, the other portion includes tables of contents and of illustrations, index, calendar, sequence of play, scenarios and many large illustrations with example text. Our philosophy was to put the key illustration of an important rule right next to the rule itself. While we do not have an example of play written as a game-turn, the illustrations cover the rule processes extensively. My personal goal was to try to make it possible for you to glance at the illustration, intuit most of the rule at direct sight, and then allow you to process the written information more easily.

Again - I respect your position and do not expect you to change your mind regarding the price for the materials. I do appreciate your interest.

I to bardziej niż w Silent War.

Ucięte nogi w Hoplitach to pikuś.
A ich grubość to jakaś masakra, cieńsze niż w gazetowych grach.

Grubość standardowa dla Compassa, nie przejmowałbym się. Bardziej mnie martwi prawdopodobne wycieranie się żetonów.

Tak więc ścierać się także będą standardowo... :)

Chyba jednak pominę EA:A i pomyślę o Peleliu..
Nieeee... :D
